GENE AUTRY — Funeral services for Walter Lee Antwine, age 89, entrusted to the care of Kirk Funeral Home, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Gene Autry. Military grave rites will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Pastors Wilmer Cooper, Abraham Walton and Gerald Wallace will officiate.
Walter was one of eight children born to Walter Sr. and Charity Bell Randall Antwine. He was born in Berwyn, Okla., October 28, 1923, and along with his other siblings, acquired his education from the Black Jack School in Berwyn. For many years, Walter Lee attended mechanical school and became a self-employed mechanic and later a horticulturist. Early in life, he was baptized at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where he professed Jesus as Lord and Savior over his life. A proud veteran of World War II, Walter Lee served overseas in the European Theater of Operations for 23 months. He and the former Myrtle Mae Wilson were married August 27, 1947. After almost 59 years of marriage, she preceded him in death May 30, 2006.
Additionally, Walter Lee was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Helen Love, Loss Ray Antwine, Louvina Antwine, Bertha Breath, Josephine Sneed and Bobbie Jean Antwine; and two sons, James Patton and Ronald Lee Antwine.
He leaves to forever cherish his memories, a sister, Ethel Bell Antwine, Gene Autry; two daughters, Edith Mae Clinton (David) and Janette Wood (Gilbert), Ardmore; four sons, Garry Paul Antwine (Shirley), Barry Wayne Antwine, Oklahoma City, Alan Antwine, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Christopher Antwine, Arlington, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nephews will serve as honorary bearers. Granddaughters and nieces will serve as flower bearers. Active bearers will be Barry Antwine Jr., Ronald Antwine Jr., Garry Antwine Jr., Ernest Antwine Jr., Paul Antwine and Gary Wood.
