  • MADILL — Royce Vaden Martin, 82, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the hospital in Ardmore. He was born on December 31, 1930, in Madill, Oklahoma, to the late Orvel Martin and Vera Carlton Martin.
    Vaden was raised in Kingston and moved to Madill where he graduated from Madill High School in 1949. He started in the grocery business at the age of 14. He was a butcher for Wood and Jones Super Market, Red Door, Red Bud, Safeway, Foodway, Winn-Dixie, Ernie's Meat Market and Farmers Market. He worked in Madill, Wilson, Davis, Marietta, Healdton and Ardmore.
    Vaden married Juanita Elaine Bourland on January 27, 1951, in DeQueen, Arkansas. They were married for 62 years. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2012. In 1957, he moved to Ardmore where he lived the rest of his life. Vaden was a member of the Ardmore Church of Christ and he enjoyed square dancing, fishing, bowling, gardening and yard work.
    He is survived by his children, Lori Dawn Sampson and husband, Mark, Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Lisa Denise Garrison and husband, Dennis, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Garrison and Zachary Garrison and Robert Sampson and Joshua Sampson; sister, Yvonne Martin West Kious and husband, Norman Kious, McAlester, Oklahoma; and special daughter, Jovita Black and husband, Randy, Lone Grove, Oklahoma.
    Vaden was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita Elaine Bourland Martin; and sister, Eva Mae Hosler.
    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home, Madill. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, Oklahoma. Don K. Preston will officiate the services. Interment will be at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery, Madill, Oklahoma.
    Casket bearers are Matthew Garrison, Zachary Garrison, Robert Sampson, Joshua Sampson, Mark Sampson, Dennis Garrison, Randy Black, Ben Bruster, Norman Kious and Jason West.
