  • Erie Shoemaker, age 90, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Ada, Okla., at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center. Services will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin - Hillcrest Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Wall and Ed Lee officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.
    Erie was born August, 21, 1922, in Overbrook, Okla., to Will and Susie (Cooper) Shoemaker. He married Painey Elizabeth (Marris) October 9, 1957, in Ardmore.
    Erie graduated from Greenville High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. Erie served the Lord as a Deacon of the First Indian Baptist Church of Dallas, the Ardmore Indian Baptist Church and the Northeast Baptist Church of Ardmore. His hobbies were baseball, softball, basketball, horseshoes and bowling. He received numerous awards and trophies for horseshoes, bowling and dominoes.
    Erie was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruby Thompson, Ella Wilmond and Cleo Bull; and two brothers, Douglas Shoemaker and Raymond Shoemaker.
    He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the home; daughter, Patricia Darlene Shoemaker; and sisters, Sylvania Padilla and Faye Taylor. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Marris, Edwyn Marris, Steven Padilla, Richard Bull, Robert Dodson, Christopher Marris, Marcus Willmond and Randy Bond. Honorary bearers are all his nephews.
