  • Services for Eunice Ellen Hice, 93, of Leon, Okla., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Leon Baptist Church, Leon, with the Rev. Terr y Tolbert officiat­ing. Interment will follow in the Leon Cemetery un­der the direction of Flana­gan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta, Okla.

    Mrs. Hice was born Feb­ruary 17, 1920, at Leon, the daughter of Jerry Dean and Emma Chnutte Dean. She passed away Sunday, March 31, in the Wilson Nursing Home, Wilson, Okla.

    A homemaker, Mrs. Hice was a devoted Chris­tian woman, wife and mother. She and Willis “Chester” Hice were mar­ried November 14, 1936, at Leon by the Rev. Caleb Brewer, and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2002. The couple en­joyed 66 years of marriage. Mrs. Hice loved gardening and spending time with children. She cared for a total of 13 children in her home over the years, and each one lovingly called her “Maw Hice.” She also spent a great deal of time cooking and baking for friends and family espe­cially during the holidays. Mrs. Hice enjoyed hav­ing ministers come to her house for dinner. She was well-known for her pies, particularly chocolate and coconut cream.

    In addition to her hus­band, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Virgil Dean, Ocie Dean and Ce­cil Dean; and sister, Nora Walker.

    She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Maxie and Mary Hice of Marietta; two daughters and son-in-law, Jemie Nell Hice of Marietta and Valeria and Darrell Reed of Leon; Ashley Reed Gil­crease whom she thought of as her own daughter; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchil­dren.

    Serving as casket bear­ers will be Don Reed, Jerry Hawkins, Waylon Brown, Bobby Dean, Dan­ny Hice and Sonny Hart­man. Honorary bearers are grandchildren, great­grandchildren and great­great-grandchildren.

    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
