Tickets go on sale Tuesday for the American Spirit Dance Company from Oklahoma City University, who will perform a high-energy, fast-paced Broadway style review at the Goddard Center on April 19 and 20.
"This show is so good we booked it twice," said Leila Lenore, Goddard Center Executive Director.
The performance is a sampling of American dance from the journey of Irish immigrants, the jazzy days of the Harlem Renaissance, and numbers from some of the greatest Broadway musicals of this century.
Oklahoma City University is critically acclaimed in the United States and overseas and noted for the successful graduates who go on to perform internationally and in many beloved Broadway musicals like "Chicago," "Guys and Dolls," "Peter Pan" and "Hello Dolly!" Since Jo Rowan, chairman of OCU's Dance Department, founded the company in 1981, it has become a well-known premier performing ensemble that tours domestically and abroad. Their bragging rights also include training more Radio City Music Hall Rockettes than any other dance school in America.
Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Goddard Center at (580) 226-0909.
A reception will be each night before the performance from 6-7 p.m. The performance will begin at 7 p.m.
This performance is made possible in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
