  • Billy Wayne Spears, age 70, of Ardmore, Okla., passed away on April 10, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Provence Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla.
    Billy was born at Independence, Kansas, to Ivy Leon Spears, Sr., and Betty (McGee) Spears on October 14, 1942. He graduated from high school in 1960 from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas, where he enjoyed playing baseball. Billy married Miss Judy Eubanks on December 7, 1963, in Coffeyville. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963 and served his country as a ground radio operator during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1967. The couple moved to Kansas City, then to Bartlesville, Okla., where Billy attended Bartlesville Wesleyan College. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree and worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. After his marriage ended in 1984, Billy moved throughout the United States. In Arkansas, he worked for Tyson Foods and he worked as a painter in Indianapolis and Austin, Texas. He settled in Ardmore in 2002. Billy was an accomplished artist and painter. He was a fan of baseball and an avid reader.
    Billy was preceded in death by his father, Ivy Leon Spears, Sr.; son, Aaron Spears; and brother, Ivy Leon Spears, Jr.
    He is survived by his mother, Betty Groves, of Coffeyville, Kansas; sons, Martin Spears and wife, Vibha Monteiro, of Austin, Texas, and Kemit Spears, Sr., and wife, Tammy, of Falls Church, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Abigail, Kaylee, Elizabeth, Kemit, Jr., Katherine, Alexander, Alisha, Ryan, Hannah, and Zella; sister, Connie Privitt, of South Coffeyville, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Julie Wilson, of Sand Springs, Okla.; mother of his children, Judy Kerns, of Tulsa, Okla.
