  • Nate Hoben continued his string of strong play for Plainview, winning his second tournament in a row on Monday as the Indians rolled in their Class 3A regional qualifier at Lake Murray.
The junior shot even par 72 to pace the field, topping runner-up Preston Lovett of Tishomingo (77) by five strokes.
“He’s played the last three rounds of golf even par,” Plainview coach Andy Bloodworth said. “He takes everything in stride. He doesn’t let the course beat him up and defintely doesn’t beat himself up. That’s a good lesson for anybody that plays golf.”
Lovett was Tishomingo’s only top 10 finisher, but Tish shot well enough to place third as a team. Lone Grove (367) and Sulphur (373) were fourth and fifth, respectively, to earn regional qualification, with Comanche sliding into sixth at 375.
Lone Grove’s Bryce Newton and Aaron Rizzo each posted scores of 84 to tie for eighth overall.
Plainview shot a 310 as a team, placing four players in the top 10 and three in the top four. Seniors Trae Wilkins (78) and Haden Coffey (79) were third and fourth, respectively. Carson Seals tied for eighth at 81.
“It’s always good to have tht mix of guys that any given day one of them can go out and win the tournament,” Bloodworth said. “One of the things we’re battling is we’ve got stiff competition just to make the top five. It’s all about finding the guys that are hot.”
The boys regional will be 36 holes on Monday at Purcell Golf Course, where Plainview shot its lowest round of the season (290) in the Lake Country Conference Tournament.
