  • LONE GROVE — Funeral services for Farris Dean Richards, age 77, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Lone Grove, Okla. Officiating will be the Reverend David Gardner and Pearl Broome. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Ardmore.
    Farris was born on September 1, 1935, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Raymond (R.D.) and Eva Ellis Richards. He died on Friday evening, April 19, 2013, at his residence after an extended illness.
    Farris married Fern Wells on June 22, 1953, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. To this union, his two daughters were born. Fern preceded him in death on June 17, 1968. Farris married Nancy Clifton on April 10, 1993, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
    Farris worked in the grocery business most of his working career. He started out with Joe Taylor Grocery and then for 42 years owned and operated The Boys Food Store. He also had a wholesale pecan business.
    Farris loved the outdoors, and loved to hunt and fish. He especially enjoyed his time fishing in the Tuesday Night Bass Tournaments at Lake Murray, and hunting pheasant in McCook, Nebraska, on a farm owned by a friend of his.
    Farris was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Fern; and three brothers, Ray, Jack and Jim.
    Farris is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home; and his two daughters and their husbands, Angela and Steven Smith of Ardmore and Pamela (Sam) and Don Scruggs of Mannsville. He also had five grandchildren, Wes and Courtney Scruggs, Samantha Scruggs, Justin and Lisa Smith, Brandon Smith, and Cody and Jessica Smith; his brother, Ralph of Ardmore; and sister, Yonna Davis of Cleveland, Tennessee. There are six great-grandchildren and another due in a couple of weeks. In addition, there are four stepchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
    Pallbearers will be Wes Scruggs, Don Scruggs, Justin Smith, Joe Denney, Randy Newcomb and Darin Newcomb. Honorary bearers are Bill Payne, Doug Wells, Gilbert Stagner and the entire Larry Ruppert Family from McCook, Nebraska.
    The family will receive friends from 5-7 this evening at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
