Whether big or small, everyone can make a difference when it comes to giving.
Last week, the young men and women of Kidzone Day Care Center donated a number of items of the Ardmore Children's Shelter. The donations were part of "Week of the Young Child: Early Years are Learning Years" at the center. The children also raised money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in a trik-a-thon.
"The parents and kids donated," Micah Ham, said. "We sent a note home with the kids what the needs were. We tried all week long to promote "Week of the Child" with the kids and we tried to teach them it is important to give back to other kids."
The week also featured pajama day, playground obstacle day, Yoga Animal Thursday along with the trike-a-thon. Donations to the children's shelter included toys, food and supplies for the shelter.
"We are just thankful to the community for opening their hearts," Malcolm Williams said. "It's an ongoing need and we just appreciate all that is done for us."
Gayla Ham, Kidzone staff, said it was a group effort between the day care center, children and parents to make the donation effort a success.
"We are glad to give back to the community, especially to the children," she said. "We had a lot of comments from the parents that they were glad to give back."
