  • MADILL — Billie Jack Hewitt, 86, of Lebanon, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the hospital in Madill. He was born on May 17, 1926, in Lebanon, to the late Jack Golie Hewitt and Lillie Eva McKenzie Hewitt.
    Billie Jack was raised in Lebanon and attended the Lebanon and Madill Schools and later helped build Lake Texoma. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1949 during World War II in the Philippines, Leyte and Panama Canal. Billie Jack married Marjorie Sue Akin on March 22, 1945, in Kingston, Oklahoma. After serving in the Army, he lived in Elmore City, Pauls Valley and Drumwright where he drove a bulldozer in the oil fields. In August of 1952, he moved back to Lebanon where he owned and operated Hewitt Grocery. Billie Jack worked as postmaster, commercial fisherman, rancher, truck driver and later the Madill Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff Department and served as Sheriff from 1975 to 1985. He always provided for his family and enjoyed reading, fishing and watching westerns.
    He is survived by his wife, Marjorie S. Hewitt, Lebanon, Oklahoma; children, Jana Bates and husband, Clinton, Denton, Texas, Terry Hewitt and wife, Deborah, Lebanon, Oklahoma, Sheila K. Preslar, Milburn, Oklahoma, and Teresa Willis and husband, Doye, Tishomingo, Oklahoma; grandchildren, David W. Preslar, Timothy C. Bates, Terry L. Hewitt, April L. Preslar, Justin G. Hewitt, Nathan T. Bates, Jordan F. Willis and Dakota S. Willis; great-grandchildren, David A. Preslar, Hailie C. Preslar, Taylor R. Colvin, Thomas Bates, Alea B. Hewitt and Caylee J. Hewitt; and sister, Helen Hensley and husband, Kenneth, Ardmore, Oklahoma.
    Billie Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and great-granddaughter, Halee Hewitt.
    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, Oklahoma. Jerry White will officiate the services. Interment will be at the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Oklahoma.
    Casket bearers: David W. Preslar, Timothy C. Bates, Terry L. Hewitt, April L. Preslar, Justin G. Hewitt, Nathan T. Bates, Jordan F. Willis and Dakota S. Willis.
