MARIETTA — Memorial services for Charles Ervin Harris, 73, of Marietta, Okla., are set for 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, in the Chapel of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta, with Bro. Cole Tidwell officiating.
Mr. Harris was born March 28, 1940, at Leon, Okla., the son of Jack Ervin Harris and Bertha Irene Stricklind Harris. He passed away Wednesday, May 1, in the VA Medical Center, Bonham, Texas.
A resident of Love County most of his life, Charles graduated from Leon High School. He served in the U.S. Army from August 22, 1958, until August 11, 1961, and then transferred to the Army Reserves. In 1959, he attended an eight-week course at the Powerman School. Later he received certification as a barber from the Texas Barber College. Charles also worked as a carpenter in addition to owning and operating a barber shop. As a young man, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and in later years turned his attention to gardening and feeding hummingbirds. He and Johnna Gayle Brintle were married in Gainesville, Texas, on July 11, 1983. Charles was a member of the Lebanon Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Harris and Stanley Harris; and nephew, Bryan Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Johnna of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Debbie Harris and Charles Harris of Marietta, Shannon and Cathy Harris of Maysville, Okla., and Eric and Amanda Harris of Greenville, Okla.; daughter, Todie Harris of Beggs, Okla.; brother, Allen Harris of Duncan, Okla.; sister, Margaret Mullins of Madill, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
