SULPHUR — Leon W. "Bill" West, a resident of Lone Grove, formerly of Sulphur, was born December 13, 1929, in White City, Kansas, to Leon H. and Florence Joy (Nelson) West. He passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Ardmore, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years 4 months and 17 days.

Bill had lived in Kansas and Oklahoma most of his life except while he was in the military. He served in the Army during Korea and Vietnam before retiring on Feb. 2, 1967. Bill and Gladys (Holbrook) Luvin Garrett were married on March 19, 2002, in DeQueen, Arkansas, and had Lived in Lone Grove since 2002, moving there from Sulphur. He was a member of D.A.V. and Brock Road Baptist Church in Lone Grove.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce Hulsey West; two sons, Wade West and Leon West Jr.; a brother, Jerry West; and a grandson, Timothy Trueblood.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Luvin West, Lone Grove, Okla.; daughter, Brenda Trueblood, Del City, Okla.; son, Edwin West, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Henrietta Hoffman, Alix, Ark., and Marilyn Kallihiokalani, Dwight, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at the DeArman Clagg Funeral Chapel in Sulphur, with the Rev. David Bramlett officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Clagg Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Eddie West, William West, Matthew West, Josh Stewart, Jared Stewart and Travis Stewart.
