Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will continue its 50th Anniversary celebration by hosting a free, open-to-the-public concert at the Myriad Botanical Gardens on Saturday, June 1 at 7 p.m.
The concert will feature previews of Lyric’s upcoming summer musicals—TARZAN, THE KING AND I, THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES and BIG RIVER. There will also be a performance by Lyric alumnus Julie Johnson, who appeared in such musicals as ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE and RAGTIME. Several food trucks will be parked near the concert for patrons’ enjoyment.
“This concert is our way of giving back to the community that has supported us for the past 50 years,” said Michael Baron, Lyric’s artistic director. “We have a fantastic lineup of summer shows approaching and this will be the public’s chance to get a sneak peek.”
The event is family-friendly and adults and children of all ages are invited. No tickets are necessary. Lyric’s free concert is made possible by the generous support of the Chickasaw Nation and the Inasmuch Foundation.
Tickets to all of Lyric’s 2013 shows are now on sale. To buy tickets, visit Lyric’s box office at 1727 NW 16th Street, call (405) 524-9312 or visit LyricTheatreOKC.com. This summer’s performances will be held at the Civic Center Music Hall on Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m.
