Leola M. Shorter, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Miracle Revival Center in Duncan, with Pastors Stephen and Louetta Grace officiating. Interment will be at the Duncan Cemetery. There will be a family visitation 6-8 p.m. today at Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Leola was born Aug. 11, 1924, in the Empire community to the late Lee and Margarete (Edward) Keck. Leola and Marion James Shorter were married Nov. 10, 1942, in Duncan. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2003. Others who preceded her in death include her daughter Brenda Frances Allen, granddaughter Carmen Leola Fouse, sister Violet Swanson and brother Carl Keck.
Leola grew up in the Empire community and attended schools at Empire and Little Beaver. She was a stay-at-home mom, caring for her family and was a rancher’s wife helping with chores pertaining to the cattle, but mostly she did the cooking to feed the ranch hands and anyone else that came to see her. Leola enjoyed gardening and canned much of her vegetables and fruit. She loved to work in her flower gardens, especially with her roses. Leola also enjoyed making quilts.
Survivors include son Harold James Shorter and wife Carolyn; daughters Carol L. Brown and husband James, and Marilyn Kay Dunbar and husband Barry; grandchildren Shelby Lynn Sisson and wife Lisa, Carey Shorter and wife Kathy, Angie Green and husband Rodney, Lisa Howe, Davie Brown, Billy C. Pollock III and wife Connie, and Joey Brown and wife Angela; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Donald Keck and wife Jeannie; sisters Weanona Bilbrey and husband Clyde, Bernice Daubenspeck and husband Vinton, Carrie Tomlinson and husband Mickey, Joy Fern Price, and Margaret Cornwell and husband Joe; and special sister-in-law Betty Keck.
Leola also loved her inlaws on her husband’s side of the family who are Roy Shorter, Kenneth Brooks, Clairece and Alton Hutto, and Carolyn Phillips Shorter; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Shelby Sisson, Carey Shorter, Davie Brown, Joey Brown, Billy Pollock III and Rodney Green.
