David Crockett Ward, 92 of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at his home in Madill. He was born on December 14, 1920, in Madill, Oklahoma, to the late Jesse Ward and Savannah Carroll Ward. David was raised in Madill and graduated from Madill High School in 1939 and later joined the United States Army Air Corp serving during WW II from 1943 to 1946 as a staff sergeant radio repairman on a B-29. He married Bess Louise Glenn on April 18, 1942, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and has been married for 71 years. David was co-owner of Ward’s Hardware for 48 years. He was active in the Madill Alumni Association, past Madill City Council member and a member of the Lake Texoma Association. David was a member of the Madill First United Methodist Church where he served as board member and trustee, past president of the Methodist Men and 14 year associate Sunday School Superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Bess Ward, Madill, Okla.; children, Jennifer Norton and husband, Joe, Duncan, Okla., Elaine Warehime, Springdale, Ark.; grandchildren, Mikel and Renae Norton, Richard Warehime; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Andrew Chayton; several nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Otis Ward; sister, Charlotta Self.
Visitation will be today at Watts Funeral Home, Madill from 1-9 p.m. Graveside services will be Monday, June 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery, Madill, Oklahoma. Herschel Beard, Brett Thomasson and Greg Jones will officiate the services. Music arranged by Sue Beard. Military honors will be conducted by the Chickasaw Honor Guard. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma.
Honorary casket bearers are Keith Clark, Ed Benton, Fred Stanley, Joe Bob Norton, Capt. Richard Warehime, SFC Mikel Norton.
