  • Fu­neral services for Iris Fern Larson, of Ardmore, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Lone Grove Cemetery with the Re v. David Gardner offi­ciating. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 this evening at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and have refresh­ments before the service at noon at the Ardmore Elks Lodge at 2526 South Commerce in Ardmore.
     
    Iris was born November 30, 1933, in Lone Grove, Oklahoma, to the late A.V. and Catherine (Bumpass) Arnold. She died on June 8, 2013, at an Ardmore, Oklahoma, nursing facil­ity .
     
    Iris was raised in Mid­west City and Lone Grove, Oklahoma, graduating from Lone Grove High School. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University for two years before marrying Mel Larson, who was stationed at the Ardmore Air Force Base.
     
    They moved to his home in New Jersey where they lived for two years. They returned to Ardmore, where she worked as a bank teller for two years. They then moved to Nor­man, Oklahoma, where they both graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Science de­gree in education.
     
    They then moved to Denver, Kansas City and Memphis, before return­ing to Ardmore where she taught in several schools. She received her master’s degree in education and started teaching in the Lone Grove Elementary School as a fifth grade teacher in 1978. She taught there for almost 20 years before retiring in 1996. During these years, she had a positive influence in the lives of hun­dreds of students.
     
    She rarely went to Walmart without one or more of them talking to her about the times when she was their teacher and she always remembered them by name.
     
    She loved to sew, quilt, play bridge and do fam­ily genealogy. She was a former Elkette with the Ardmore Elks Lodge and was of the Baptist faith.
     
    Her parents preceded her in death, as well as, her grandparents, Claude and Dona Arnold and Claude and Basil (Carter) Bumpass.
     
    Iris is survived by her husband, Melvin of the home; sons, Edward Larson and wife, Sarah of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Paul Larson and wife, Deanna Larson of Nor­man, Oklahoma; daugh­ter, Cathy Boydston of Ar­dmore, Oklahoma; grand­children, Harley Boydston and Casey Boydston of Ar­dmore, Oklahoma; great-­grandchildren, Tyson and Logan Boydston of Ard­more, Oklahoma; cous­ins, Betty Magar of Ard­more, Oklahoma, Gayle and Kenneth McCaskill of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Gurnie and Betty Bump­ass of Collierville, Tennes­see, and Ann Bumpass of Lone Grove, Oklahoma; and her loving dog, Mag­gie of the home.
