Betty Jo Hammer Porter, 82, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at her home in Madill. She was born on August 20, 1930, in Springer, Oklahoma, to the late Rhodeth Ulysses (Brownie) Brown and Hattie Thelma Pogue Brown.

Betty was raised in the Springer, Berwyn and Dickson area. She gradu­ated from Dickson High School in 1949 and later attended Murray State College. She also attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she received a master’s in English and library sci­ence. She married Ray­mond Bruce Hammer in Ardmore on June 28, 1958. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1999. Betty worked 53 years as an English teacher in Randelett, Fox, Lone Grove, Plain­view and finished up in Springer public schools. She later married Hubert Ronald Porter on Decem­ber 30, 2003, in Arkan­sas. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2012. Betty was a member of the Oakview Baptist Church. She taught Sun­day school at the Trinity Baptist Church in Ard­more and was a member of the Eastern Star and was a National Honor So­ciety Sponsor. She enjoyed reading, bowling, talking on the phone and visiting with family.

She is survived by: brother, Richard (Corkey) Brown and wife, Betty; sisters, Elsie Lowden and husband, Dub, Polly Taylor, Mary Brogdin and husband, Robert (Bob), Linda Taylor and husband, William (Bill), Barbara (Dolly) Keith and Lorena Smith; and brothers-in-law, Wayne Bell and Rex Riner.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brother, Gearld Brown and wife, Teary; sisters, Thelma (Sue) Bell and Hattie Riner; and brothers-in-law, Larry Keith, Al Taylor and Paul Hughey.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday with a fam­ily hour from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Watts Funeral Home, Madill.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Oakview Baptist Church, Oakland, Okla­homa. Brian Gardner, Gary Don Taylor, Terry Tolbert and Brandon Cottrell will officiate the services. Music arranged by Billy Taylor. Inter­ment will be at the Hill­crest Cemetery, Ardmore, Oklahoma. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Ma­dill, Oklahoma.

Casket bearers: David Lowden, Rich Brown, Jimmy Taylor, Lorne Smith, Jerry Bell and Richard Taylor.
