Shawnee resident Patty McWilliams went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.
Patty was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Joplin, Mo., to Arnold and Ruth Long. She was the second of two children.
Patty married Warren McWilliams May 31, 1968, in Bartlesville.
Patty is survived by her husband Warren, her daughters Amy and Karen, her brother Meredith Long, and his family — his wife Janice, their son Brad, and their daughter Melinda and her family — and a number of cousins and their families. She also leaves behind her adopted family, the Kellys, and innumerable friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Ruth.
Patty grew up in Joplin, Miami, Okla., and Bartlesville. She graduated from College High School in Bartlesville in 1964 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. Patty was an active member of University Baptist Church in Shawnee since 1976, where she sang in the choir, played in the handbell choir, and taught in the Sunday School program. She was involved in many community activities and enjoyed working on her family’s genealogy. Patty managed the OBU bookstore for many years. She was an avid fan of Bison basketball.
A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 17, at University Baptist Church, 2515 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee. The family will be available to visit with friends following the service at the church.
