The search continues for a swimmer who disappeared Saturday in Lake of the Arbuckles.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area officials said rangers received a report about 1:30 p.m. of the missing 51-year-old man. The victim was swimming in an estimated 70 feet of water with members of his family off a pontoon boat near the lake's dam.

"Due to windy weather conditions, the boat drifted away from the swimmer and he became submerged before he could get back on his boat. Members of his group dove in to provide assistance, but were unable to locate him," said CNRA spokesman Aaron Shandor.

Rangers responded immediately. However, the search was hampered by wind gusts of 25 mph and what was called "rough conditions."

Shandor said park authorities "presume" the man drowned, however, the victim's body has yet to be recovered.

"To date, search efforts, with assistance from Oklahoma Highway Patrol Dive Team and Lake Patrol (Marine Patrol Division), Oklahoma Fish and Game, the Sulphur Fire Department and Murray County Sheriff's Office, remain unsuccessful in locating the man. Rangers will continue long shifts of searching utilizing side scan sonar and drags in an effort to recover the swimmer," Shandor said Tuesday afternoon.
