  • Gayle Kearns, Ed.D., chief academic officer of the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma, was recently selected as one of 20 international university administrators to receive a Fulbright Scholar grant for the 2013-14 academic year.

Kearns was chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, a 12-member board appointed by the President of the United States to select recipients and establish worldwide policies for the highly regarded Fulbright Program.

Kearns will travel to Germany and France in October to participate in a two-week group seminar on German and French higher education and international education opportunities.

She will visit various educational institutions, cultural events and briefings, and will also meet with government officials to learn more about international higher education and special interests.

“I look forward to learning about different approaches to higher education and international education and integrate what I learn into the UCO community. I truly believe that it’s going to be an eye opening experience and I can’t wait to share what I learn with everyone at Central,” Kearns said.

The Fulbright Program is America’s flagship international educational exchange program, sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools.
