The Ardmore Parks and Recreation Department is throwing a party this month and the public is invited.
A number of activities have been scheduled in honor of Parks and Recreation Month. Kevin Boatright, department director, said it is an opportunity to give back to the citizens of Ardmore.
"Our biggest motivator is sharing with the citizens that this is their parks and our passion," he said.
In past years, the department has designated one event to celebrate the month, but this year there will be three events.
"We decided to do two or three things so that everyone will have at least one thing they are interested in attending and participating in. And if they can come to all three, they can do that as well."
The first event is 12:30 to 6 p.m. July 13 at Ardmore Community Water Park. Boatright said door prizes will be offered as well as concession specialty in addition to what is normally offered. There will also be games for patrons that will include prizes.
The three events will be moved around to different parks. The July 19 community event is Movie in the Park at Regional Park. The movie, "The Great and Powerful Oz," will be shown at dusk. Admission is free and a donation can be made.
Boatright said this is the first time in two or three years the department has hosted a movie in the park. Parking is in the south parking lot of the softball fields and the department will set up a blowup movie screen. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and refreshments. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the park.
The final park event will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 25 at Central Park. The department will sponsor a citizenship appreciation day in which residents are invited to come to the park and meet board members and supervisors. The department will provide hot dogs, chips, drinks and a small dessert free of charge.
