Ardmore police continue to investigate the single vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old and injured the 17-year-old driver early Sunday.
Tuesday afternoon Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, Ardmore Police Department public information officer, said the investigation has moved forward.
"We believe speed was a factor. The vehicle was exceeding the posted speed limit," Hunnicutt said, but added accident reconstructionists were still working to determine what other factors, if any, led to the 2 a.m. crash in the 3400 block of Carter Street.
The 17-year-old driver was airlifted to Oklahoma City. Details surrounding his condition were not available. The 15-year-old was a passenger in the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, identified as a 16-year-old male, was taken to Mercy Hospital Ardmore where he was treated and later released.
All three teenagers were residents of the Golden Oaks addition and were believed to have been on their way home at the time of the crash.
A witness has told investigators the driver may have swerved to miss a dog or some other kind of animal in the roadway.
