  • Twelve days after disappearing in Arbuckle Lake, the body of a 50-year-old swimmer was recovered Wednesday morning.
Chickasaw National Recreation Area officials said the body of Kelly Knick, Sulphur, was found about 10:10 a.m.
CNRA Chief Ranger Aaron Shandor described the search effort as "exhaustive," thanking assisting agencies which included Sulphur Fire Department, Murray County Sheriff's Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Dive Team and Marine Enforcement, Oklahoma Department of Fish and Game, Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police and Central Oklahoma Search and Rescue.
Knick disappeared June 22 while swimming with his family off a pontoon boat near the dam. Windy weather had caused the boat to drift away. Knick disappeared while attempting to get back to the boat.
CNRA rangers launched a search within minutes of receiving the report of Knick's disappearance in about 75 feet of water. The search began at the point in the water where he was last seen. Initial efforts were hampered by 25 mph wind and rough water. Search efforts had continued until Knick's body was recovered.
