Bob was born to Dabney and Thelma Jacobs Colston June 7, 1930, in Love County. Bob grew up on a farm in the Shady Dale community of Love County and was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1948. He began his business career while still in high school at the Marietta Abstract Company. After high school, Bob attended Draughn's Business College in Ardmore.
He married the former Maxine Links on September 22, 1951, in Gainesville, Texas. They moved to Ardmore in 1955 when he began working as a land man with Samedan Oil Corporation. After 26 years of employment, he retired to start business ventures of his own. In 1975, Bob and longtime friend, Tom Jobe, purchased the Colston Building located in downtown Ardmore. He was one of the founding members of Citizens Bank & Trust of Ardmore in 1978 and served as a board member for as long as his health permitted.
He attended First Baptist Church of Ardmore. Bob was a smart businessman and loved working, but above all he loved God and being with his family. He enjoyed spending time at the family farm at Shady Dale, whether it was raising cattle or simply driving or walking through the pastures. Bob especially enjoyed taking family vacations with his children and grandchildren.
