Every week, the Ardmoreite will feature area prep athletes headed into the start of the fall sports season.
There have been plenty of changes in Dickson football the past four years, but one constant has been the presence of Shawn McClellan.
The rising senior has been a mainstay at linebacker for the Comets since his freshman season, and he's looking to help Dickson continue its steady progression in coach Jeremy Reed's third year.
Being one of the leaders on this team, what is something different that you've seen from last year to this year?
McClellan: "We have better seniors. Everyone has stepped up. The younger guys have grown a lot and our work ethic is better. We all believe in one another and we all take more pride in what we do."
How have you grown individually from last season?
McClellan: "I've slimmed down a little bit and I've gotten a little bit quicker, which will help me on both offense and defense. Obviously on defense, it will help me be better at rushing the passer and on offense; it should help me be able to break long runs. I've also tried to improve at blocking."
With being around the ball and line of scrimmage for the majority of the game, what is your mindset on Friday nights?
McClellan: "It's all about doing the little things right. I try to prepare by knowing my assignment and doing my job on both sides of the ball."
What is your favorite memory of Dickson football?
McClellan: "Probably last year when we beat Atoka to be the first team in school history to start the season 4-0. It was really cool."
What are your expectations for this fall?
McClellan: "We want to host a home playoff game. That's our top goal right now."
What has Coach (Jeremy) Reed meant to you and this program?
McClellan: "He's changed our program tremendously. He's changed everything about us; the way we think, what we believe in, how we work, all of our attitudes, just everything. He's just changed Dickson completely."
