Thermometers in Ardmore hit triple digits for the first time this year Wednesday afternoon.
According to ardmoreweatherlive.com, the mercury topped out at 100.6 degrees at 3:20 p.m., which was three degrees short of the 103.6 record for yesterday, a mark set just two years ago. The last 100-degree day in Ardmore was Sept. 22, 2012, when the thermometer peaked at 100.4 degrees.
The high on July 10, 2012, was 94.8 degrees.
A year ago, the first 100-degree day came more than two weeks earlier, when it reached 100.8 degrees on June 24. It was the first of six consecutive 100-degree days (the seventh day missed the century mark by only 0.3 degrees)
July 2012 saw 16 days of 100-degree temperatures, including 14 of the last 15 days of the month. During that stretch, the thermometer topped out at 107.8 and 107.6, respectively, on July 20-21, then the last three days of the month soared to 108.0, 108.3 and 109.8.
August continued the heat wave with the first 10 days of the month – and 12 of the first 14 – surpassing the century mark, including the first three days at 110.5, 110.2 and 109.2.
The forecast for today calls for a return to triple digits with a high near 102, and heat index values as high as 106. Temperatures are expected to flirt with 100 degrees again on Friday, before a cooling trend beginning Saturday that forecasts highs in the low 90s Sunday and most of next week.
