Carl Gene Brown, age 93, passed away at his home with his family by his side in Ardmore on Friday, July 12, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest. Interment to follow at Criner Hills Cemetery.
Carl was the son of Bedford Alvis and Sarah Jane (Stinnett) Brown. He was born on May 23, 1920, in Idabel, Oklahoma. Carl joined the United States Army and served for four years. On March 2, 1946, he married Georgeina Fay Jacks in Gainesville, Texas. They moved to Manteca, California, and Carl went to work for the government at Sharpe Army Depot for 25 years. He took an early out and then went to work for the Evaluation Research Corporation as an inspector for five years.
After his retirement, the couple returned to Ardmore. Carl was a member of Marsden Baptist Church of Marsden, Okla. He loved his church family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bedford Alvis Brown; his mother, Sarah Jane (Stinnett) Brown; sisters, Essie Woodcock, Ethel Doon, Velma Rivers, and Myrtle Jordan; brothers, Isham, Henry, Roosevelt, and Daniel Brown; step-son, Edward Lee Jacks.
Carl is survived by his wife, Georgeina (Jacks) Brown, of the home; sons, Bedford Carl Brown and his wife, Roberta, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Ronald Wayne Brown of Ardmore, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Taryn and Brent of Ardmore, Justin and wife, Alisa, of Eureka, California, Nicholas "Nikki" and Tiffany of Battle Creek, Michigan, Christy of South Carolina, Jeremy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; niece, Betty Webb and husband, Wayne, of Davis, Okla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family visitation will be held on Monday evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., July 15, 2013, at Griffin~Hillcrest.
