  • Kingston graduate Jared Hayes was recently named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State baseball game.
Hayes will represent the Large East at the All-State game, July 30 at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. Hayes was originally an All-Region selection to Large East Region 6, and was drafted into the All-State game as a replacement.
As a senior, Hayes batted .447 with 33 runs batted in and a .515 on-base percentage. He led Kingston with a 1.97 ERA on the mound and helped the Redskins to their first state tournament appearance in 25 years.
"Jared got more out of his athletic ability than any other kid I've ever coached, and I've been around some good ones," Kingston coach Darron Henson said. "He put in the time and effort, and he never made any excuses. Plus he's just a great kid, a great teammate and a great person to be around."
Hayes was an All-Ardmoreite Super Team selection in basketball and baseball, and was a first-team All-Ardmoreite quarterback. Hayes was also selected as an OCA All-Star in Class 2A football.
After having been initially named an alternate, the call informing Hayes he had been selected to play in the prestigious All-State game came weeks later. He'll join Plainview pitcher James Bowker as a representative from south-central Oklahoma.
"Oh, we were all pretty pumped," Hayes said of his selection. "My mom, dad and me — we were all pretty excited."
