Lone Grove officially named Jeremy Turner as its new head football coach and athletic director on Monday.
Turner, a 1996 Lone Grove graduate, will serve as the interim football coach following the departure of head coach/AD Kenny Ridley.
"I thought it could happen, but I wasn't 100 percent," Turner said of the hire. "That happened about 7:30 p.m. Monday night. I've been at the fieldhouse ever since."
Turner stepped out of coaching in 2012 to move into middle school administration as an assistant principal, a position he will remain in this school year. His familiarity with the players on the current
Lone Grove football roster was a deciding factor in Turner getting the nod as the next football coach and AD.
Turner's last coaching position was as Lone Grove's baseball coach in 2012. He also served as Longhorns offensive coordinator from 2009-2011.
"I missed coaching, there's no doubt about it," Turner said Wednesday night. "I was extremely interested in the athletic director's position. When they called me and told me coach Ridley was resigning, I told them I wanted to be an athletic director."
Turner will stay on as athletic director after the hiring of a full-time football coach following the 2013 season.
"We felt like we had really good candidates, we just felt like we didn't have enough time to get somebody in place in time for football," Turner said of the head coach position.
