Lavell J. Smith, 90, formerly of Lone Grove, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Eufaula. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with Rev. Doug Henson officiating.
Lavell was born Nov. 29, 1922, at Ft. Towson, Okla. She was the 12th of 14 children born to Soloman Virgil Nation and Sophia Lena (Williams) Nation. Lavell graduated from Ft. Towson High School and trained to be a nurse in Ardmore. She married Walter E. "Buster" Smith on May 8, 1946, at Ardmore. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and homemaking. Lavell and Buster both enjoyed fishing. The couple traveled in their Airstream trailer, camping and touring the United States. While Buster was the hunter, Lavell was the chief campsite cook.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Buster; and siblings Sarah McMillan, Lula Henniger, William Nation, Leonard Nation, Velma McMillan, Beatrice West, Estelle Lyon, Iva Ashton, Lendon Keith Nation and Frank Nation.
Lavell is survived by her sister, Helen Mayo, of Eufaula, and many nieces and nephews.
