Services for Dallas Jr. "Boog" Taliaferro, 85, of Leon, will be at 10 a.m. today in Marietta's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Roluti officiating. Interment in the Leon Cemetery will follow, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.

Mr. Taliaferro was born May 3, 1928, at Leon, the son of Dallas and Elsie Hartman Taliaferro. He passed away Sunday, July 21, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta.

A resident of the Leon community most of his life, Mr. Taliaferro was a 1946 graduate of Leon High School. He and Maxine McBride were married on July 25, 1946, in Gainesville, Texas. Boog began farming in 1946, and in 1951 went to the oil field as a roughneck, driller and pusher, working until 1967. In addition, he served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56. In 1967, he purchased a grocery store in Leon and operated it until 1975. Mr. Taliaferro was very involved in community affairs, serving on the Leon School Board for many years until the school closed in 1994, and also on the Leon Water Board for many years. During all this time, he was irrigating peanuts and raising cattle. His other interests included sports, fishing, music and comedy. As a longtime member of the Leon Baptist Church, he was ordained as a deacon along with Terry Hyman and Pat Parker.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother S.R. "Son" Taliaferro.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Taliaferro of the home; son Jerry Taliaferro and special friend Dale Kircher of Dallas; children Alvie and Laura Reed of Marietta; sister Sheila Freeman of Enid; sister-in-law Sue Taliaferro of Marietta; two brothers-in-law John McBride and wife, Wakie of Marietta, and Harvey McBride and wife, Marie of Lawton; grandchildren Megan Reed-Yow and husband, Cliff and David Reed of Marietta; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends.

Serving as bearers will be Alvie Reed, John McBride, Harvey McBride, Larry Taliaferro, Johnny Gordon and Dale Kircher. Honorary bearers are Mickey Locke, Bill Hilton, Tony Ramon, Tom Crawford, Lewis Blakley, Cliff Yow, Herb Erhart, Dennis Frazier and Larry Hicks.
