EDMOND — The Chronicle of Higher Education named the University of Central Oklahoma as one of the "2013 Great Colleges to Work For." Central is the only higher education institution in the state recognized on the list.
The university ranks among the best nationally in two of the survey's categories:
Professional/Career Development - employees are given the opportunity to develop skills and understand requirements to advance their careers; andTeaching Environment - faculty believe the institution recognizes innovative and high quality teaching.University of Central Oklahoma President Don Betz said the results of the survey reflect the spirit of collaboration, communication and camaraderie among the faculty and staff.
"This is an era of challenge and change in higher education, and our faculty and staff possess the innovation, flexibility and dedication needed to ensure Central not only keeps up, but thrives in this environment," Betz said.
"As Oklahoma's metropolitan university, our faculty and staff commit to partnering with our community to prepare students to succeed in our state's growing economy."
Results were determined through a direct survey of faculty and staff at universities and colleges throughout the country. This is the fifth time in the past six years the university has been named to the list, with past recognition in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The "2013 Great Colleges to Work For" list is based on responses from nearly 45,000 people at 300 institutions: 227 four-year colleges and universities (136 private and 91 public), and 73 two-year colleges, with 97 institutions making the final list. All accredited institutions in the United States with an enrollment of at least 500 were invited to participate, at no cost to them.
The survey ranked colleges and universities in 12 categories. UCO's peer group in this poll included universities and colleges that have 10,000 or more students. UCO has more than 2,800 full and part-time employees, and is one of Edmond's largest employer.
