WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of Senate Armed Services Committee, Wednesday praised Congressman Tom Cole (R-OK-4) for successfully offering an amendment to the House of Representatives' Defense Appropriations bill (H.R. 2397) that would prevent the Department of Defense from furloughing civilian employees who are paid through the Working Capital Fund.
"I applaud Congressman Cole's amendment in the House Defense Appropriations bill that would end furloughs for more than 9,500 hard-working civilians at Tinker Air Force Base and more than 1,500 at the Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester," said Inhofe. "As we witnessed with the FAA control towers, the administration has been attempting to use hardworking civilian employees as pawns to make sequestration painful in hopes of furthering its political agenda. Rep. Cole's amendment proves that recent furloughs are unnecessary and could have been avoided with proper leadership and planning from the Obama Administration."
