  • Darlene J. McGee, 93, known as "Nanny" to many, passed from this life on July 13, 2013. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
She was born in Iowa on August 5, 1919, to Jessie and Elsie Mae (Wardell) Richardson. She lived a full life that included two long and happy marriages; the first to Ormand Denton, in Mangum, Okla., on October 3, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1980. They shared three children, Winnona, Kathrine and Jesse. In 1987, Darlene was blessed to reconnect with her childhood friend, Robert Pat McGee who was also widowed, and the two married on April 30th 1988. They shared 19 wonderful years together before his death in 2009.
Her family of three children blossomed into a much larger family of 26 that included eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She remained a Christian example of beauty and strength to each and every one of them until her death.
She held different jobs throughout her life but retired from United Supermarket in Fredrick, Okla., after 23 years of service. She loved to garden, cook and spend time with her family, which included her beloved pets. She spent the last few years of her life in Elmbrook Nursing home where she was cared for with loving compassion until her death. In her last moments, she was surrounded by family and her best friend, Avelina Garcia holding her hand.
She is survived by two daughters, Winnona Stephens and her husband, Bill of Ardmore, Kathrine Scruggs and her husband, Joe of Doddridge Arkansas; one son, Col. Jesse Denton and his wife, Karen of Olympia, Washington; two step-children, Robert McGee Jr. of Edmond, Okla., and Betty Coldsnow and her husband Ron of Garland, Texas; along with eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.
