The Oklahoma Bar Association ( is accepting nominations from attorneys and the general public for its annual awards presentations.
Nominations must be received by Aug. 19, 2013, and awards will be presented to recipients at the OBA Annual Meeting held from Nov. 13 – 15, 2013, at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City.
Awards are open to lawyers and non-lawyers who have impacted the legal community.
“The spirit of service in the Oklahoma legal community is alive and well, but there are many people and groups outside the OBA whose service inspires us all. In fact, the Liberty Bell Award is reserved for non-attorneys and lay organizations who promote legal issues. So, a law degree isn’t a prerequisite to nominate an attorney for an award, nor is it a prerequisite to win an award,” said OBA President Jim Stuart of Shawnee.
Lawyers who advocate on behalf of their communities, children or the less fortunate may be nominated for the Outstanding Service to the Public, Alma Wilson or Outstanding Pro Bono Service awards. Lawyers who have upheld the highest ideals of the legal profession may be nominated for the Professionalism, Ethics or Courageous Lawyer awards. Non-lawyers and lay organizations that promote legal issues will be recognized by the Liberty Bell Award.
Judges and attorneys who have contributed to continuing legal education or the promotion and publicity of matters regarding the legal system may be nominated for the Judicial Excellence Award and Earl Sneed Award for Continuing Legal Education.
