A local man died and five others injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on state Highway 7.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Lawrence Pearson, 68, identified as the driver of a 2003 GMC, died at Arbuckle Hospital in Sulphur following the 5:25 p.m. crash 0.2 miles east of Davis.

Donald Stevenson, 66, Yukon, the driver of the 2013 Ford involved in the accident, was treated and released from the Sulphur hospital.

Waymon Brown, 83, Longview, Texas, a passenger in the Ford was also treated and released.

But three other passengers in Stevenson's vehicle were hospitalized with head injuries. Joyce Brown, 80, Longview, Texas, was taken to the Sulphur hospital and later transferred to the Lawton hospital, where she was admitted. Claudia Coggin, 85, and Daniel Coggin, 93, both of Burleson, Texas, were admitted to the Sulphur medical facility.

Patrol reports indicate Pearson was turning south onto a county road from the highway and failed to yield to Stevenson's eastbound vehicle. Pearson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
