A convicted sex offender is back behind bars facing charges involving repeated sex crimes against an Ardmore child.
James William Conway, 50, Overbrook, was arrested Tuesday by Detective Larry Payne, Ardmore Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, APD public information officer, said Payne was assigned as lead investigator in the case after police received a "referral" from the Department of Human Services.
"DHS has received an anonymous call regarding Conway," Hunnicutt said, adding the police investigation indicated Conway had used his van in perpetrating the repeated crimes against the child.
The case remains open and ongoing.
District Attorney Craig Ladd said Wednesday afternoon prosecutors obtained a 48-hour affidavit detaining Conway, which includes a $400,000 bond, while the case is reviewed. Formal charges are expected to be filed today.
Conway's criminal history includes three sex crime convictions in Roswell, N.M., before he apparently moved to Oklahoma. In 1999, he was convicted in Carter County District Court of 1998 charges including lewd molestation and forcible sodomy. He was incarcerated in a state prison in March 1999, and released in May 2011.
