Ardmore native and professional golfer Jason Meece finished in a six-way tie for second place at the OGA Oklahoma Open Sunday at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond.
Meece entered the final round at 2-under, but matched three other golfers for the low round of the day (67) on Sunday. Amateur Chris Worrell won the tournament with an 8-under par 202, thus the six players who finished tied for second split the first-place earnings.
"I always love coming back every year to play in the state open," Meece said. "I remember coming up when I was a kid, to watch the pros play in this tournament. Now that I'm able to play in it and finish towards the top of the leaderboard (it) has been something I'll always remember."
Meece almost came away with the tournament victory, missing a 6-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to go to 6-under. Meece finished at 5-under 205 on the par 70, 7,154-yard course.
"The course was set up very difficult the last round," he said Monday. "I didn't make any big numbers, I stayed away from the costly mistakes and just battled every shot."
