  • Ardmore police rescued a 7-year-old girl Monday morning after she had been kidnapped from her northwest side home overnight and then held inside her abductor's barricaded apartment until he was taken into custody.
But the case didn't end with the victim's rescue, nor the kidnapper's arrest. A probe into a tangled web of details concerning the circumstances surrounding what has been labeled a burglary-kidnapping continued to unravel Monday afternoon as investigators seeking evidence served search warrants.
Late Monday, Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, Ardmore Police Department public information officer, described the investigation as ongoing. Meanwhile Brendon Marusak remained in the Carter County Detention Center pending charges.
The 27-year-old was booked into the county jail Monday morning after being apprehended by officers about 9 a.m. at his residence in the Ashbrooke Place Apartment complex, located at 1902 Knox Road.
Hunnicutt said Marsuak was taken into custody about an hour after a "frantic" mother reported her child was missing from the same apartment complex.
"She was taken sometime during the night," Hunnicutt said.
Another child, believed to have been an eyewitness, was able to provide police with a description of the kidnapper.
"Based on a description and previous nuisance calls from the apartment complex, officers developed information indicating Marusak was the suspect," Hunnicutt said.
Marusak had attempted to barricade the entry to his apartment. However, officers overcame the blockage, entered the apartment, captured Marusak and rescued the child, all without incident.
Hunnicutt said the child was immediately taken to the local emergency room where she was examined and later released.
