Oklahoma State senior linebacker Caleb Lavey is the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. It’s the first such honor of Lavey’s career and marks the first time a Cowboy has been recognized with the league’s weekly defensive honor since Shaun Lewis in 2011.

Lavey recorded a game-high 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a half sack in serving as ringleader for an Oklahoma State defense that suffocated Mississippi State in the Cowboys’ 21-3 win over the Bulldogs in Houston.

Lavey and the OSU defense only allowed the Bulldogs to cross midfield five times in the game and only three times after the first quarter.
