  • A 32-year-old Lone Grove man is behind bars facing charges he repeatedly raped a child who had been placed in his custody by the Department of Human Services.
Johnny Joe Garcia, 32, was charged with two counts of first-degree rape Tuesday. He made an initial appearance in district court where Special District Judge Thomas Baldwin set bond at $300,000. Baldwin also stipulated if Garcia posted bond, he must wear a GPS ankle monitor.
Garcia was arrested by Detective Matt Dunn, Ardmore Police Department Criminal Investigation Division. Dunn began an investigation after DHS reported the victim had disclosed the sexual assaults.
Count 1 accuses Garcia of raping the child, who was under age 14, between November 2011 and Nov. 20, 2012, while residing in Ardmore. Count 2 accuses him of continuing to rape the girl during the summer of 2012 while he was living in Lone Grove.
"He (Garcia) had temporary guardianship of the child," said Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, Ardmore Police Department public information officer. "Guardianship was later placed with someone else. The child was moved and recently notified DHS of the events."
Late Wednesday afternoon, Carter County Detention Center records indicated Garcia remained jailed.
If convicted, he faces not less than five years in a state prison per charge.
