Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating.

He was born July 23, 1921, to Fred B. Jones and Cora Maud Archerd in Madill. His family moved to Durant at an early age, where he attended elementary, junior high and Durant High School. He attended Southeastern State University and Oklahoma University, but dropped out and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He earned his wings and an officer's commission of 2nd Lieutenant in April 1943. He served in England and France flying DC-3s (C-47s) carrying parachute infantry and delivering needed supplies. He participated in the D-Day invasion in Normandy carrying troops to Ste. Mere Iglise, a small French town in Normandy. He participated in a number of other drops and supply deliveries. He was a member of the 73rd Squadron of the 434th Group. He was separated with the rank Captain.

He then returned to Oklahoma and enrolled at Oklahoma University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1948. He joined the Gulf Oil Corporation in Sinclair, he worked in Ardmore; Wichita, Kansas; Anchorage, Alaska; and Tulsa. He then was employed by Atlantic-Richfield.

He loved to sing and participated in choirs, quartets, duets and solos in schools, churches and synagogues.

He was active in the Ardmore Geological Society and held most offices of that organization. He was an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists attending conventions in San Antonio, San Francisco, St. Louis and Calgary, Canada.

He married Nancy Jeanne Fondren July 3, 1943, in Alliance, Neb., where he was in flight training.

He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as, four sisters, Doris Markham, Maxine Pate, Elsie Lehman and Mary Verna Jones.

He is survived by a sister, Martha Lou Sullivan of Durant. He had three children, Carol Ann Jones of Norman, Janet Ruth Reinish and husband, Jim of Norman, and one son, Fred Wesley Jones and wife, Holly of Edmond. He had two grandchildren, Eric Weber of Norman and Paige Weber of Houston.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Bryant, Mark Littlechild, Eric Webber, Jim Reinish, Bill Boone and Fred Schmidt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be O.K. Cunningham, Bob Allen, Clem Smalley and Willard Hohnstein. Online condolences may be made at
