Tommy G. Spoonemore, 73, of Ardmore, Okla., passed away on Friday, September 13, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Tommy was born on February 28, 1940, to George A. and Elizabeth Pearl (Pitcock) Spoonemore at St. Louis, Oklahoma. He graduated from St. Louis High School and joined the United States Navy in 1958. After his honorable discharge, he went to work as a truck driver. He drove long hauls for many years before moving to Ardmore and finding work as a custodian for the Ardmore school system. Tommy married Roxie Faye (Kelly) Gravitt on May 13, 1991, at Ardmore, Okla. Following his retirement, he worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart for eight years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. A true patriot, Tommy was the driving force behind creating the Royal Guard to ensure that each veteran would receive a United States Flag and that the flag he served under would be present at local parades and ceremonies to honor our flag and country.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Roxie, of the home; sons, Thomas, Shawn, Tommy, and Travis; daughters, Theresa and Krissy, and their children.; sister, Billie Mayo, of Ardmore.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Johnson, Thurman Thomason, Dowell McLemore, Brink Kelly, Richard Mosley, and Travis Beaver. Serving as honorary bearers will be Gene Johnson, Bill Pratt, Doug Mays, Trenna Stone, Jimmy Miller, and other members of the Royal Guard.

Visitation will be held on Monday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sept. 16, 2013, at Griffin~Hillcrest
