NORMAN — Plainview's boys and girls cross country teams swept the OK Runner Classic on Friday, with the girls dominating the field and the boys edging Heritage Hall.
Madie Gray beat Rylee Rich of Marlow by 1 second, winning for the fourth time in four races this season, to pace the Plainview girls to a 19-125 victory over second-place Heritage Hall in the Class 4A and under division. The Indians had five of the top six runners in Gray (12 minutes, 22 seconds), Darian Barnes (third, 12:30), Jessica Woods (12:40), Kyleigh Norris (12:43) and Bailey Sutherlin (sixth, 12:45). Hannah Ross (17th, 13:35) gave Plainview six runners in the top 20.
The boys faced tougher competition from Heritage Hall and Anadarko. The Indians edged out Heritage Hall 69-70, and Anadarko was third with 72.
Freshman Josh Jones led Plainview on the 3.1-mile course, placing seventh overall in 18:19. Jackson Daube (10th, 18:33) joined Jones in the top 10 and five of the Indians' seven runners placed in the top 20. Elijah McPhail (16th, 19:00), Yaseen Shurbaji (17, 19:05) and Brayden Cross (19th, 19:10) helped Plainview overcome Heritage Hall placing four runners in the top 12.
Marietta was third in the girls' standings with 127 points. Jaime Alexander (13:12) and Abbie Winchester (13:13) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, as individuals.
