Services for Marion Richard "Dick" Conley Jr., 85, of Ardmore, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, in the Chapel of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta, with the Rev. Eric Dennis officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa.
Conley was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Willford, Ark., the son of Marion Richard and Alma Gladys Davis Conley. He passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, in the Oklahoma Veterans Center, Ardmore Division.
A graduate of Tulsa High School, Dick then served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He returned to Tulsa and enrolled in Spartan School of Aeronautics where he completed his flight training. For 14 months, he flew DC-3s for Williams Brothers Pipeline in Alaska, and from 1953-55 flew DC-3s as a captain for Trans Texas Airlines while living in Corpus Christi, Texas. Conley flew for Noble Drilling Corp. in Tulsa, and in 1958 moved to Ardmore where he transferred to Samedan Oil Corp., and eventually became chief pilot and head of their aviation department. He retired in 1984 due to health reasons with around 27,000 flight hours. Conley enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing, traveling, HO trains and playing poker with friends from the lake. He and the former Patsy Sue Hill were married Dec. 31, 1981, in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Conley of the home in Ardmore; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Debbie Conley of Madill, and Bruce and Katie Conley of Oklahoma City; daughter, Karen Cunningham, also of Oklahoma City; stepson, Sam and Julie Barrick of Marietta; and two stepdaughters, Sandra and Ray Butler and Susie and Travis Williams, all of Ardmore.
