  • Violet Katrina Harrill is one happy little lady as she left this world for her Heavenly home on Sept. 16, 2013, in the Lake Country Nursing Center in Marietta, at the age of 95.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Burneyville Baptist Church where Violet was a member. Interment will follow in the Burneyville Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
    Violet Katrina Hays was born Nov. 14, 1917, to Thomas Wesley Hays and Ruby Lee Adams Hays. A graduate of Burneyville High School, she attended Pike School where she learned to write. and that learning served her well through the years as she wrote cards and letters to everyone she knew as well as for the Marietta Monitor.
    Violet married Arlie E. Harrill on May 4, 1937, and they traveled, worked, danced and loved for 64 years until his death in 2001. Violet loved people. She raised her family and worked at the cookie shop, the pants factory, the Red Rooster and the Falconhead Coffee Shop. She helped with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also cared for her parents until their deaths. She never met anyone who stayed a stranger. Violet would feed any stray person or animal that came into her presence and always had a smile.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Wesley Hays and Ruby Lee Adams Hays; brother, Thomas Wesley Hays Jr.; half brother, Jack Hays; husband, Arlie E. Harrill; and son-in-law, Wendel Nail.
    She is survived by her children: son, Randy Harrill and wife, Kay of Addison, Texas; three daughters, Arlene Harrill Nail of Lone Grove, Peggy Harrill Gipson and husband, Bill and Tanya Harrill Teafatiller and husband, Robert, all of Burneyville; grandchildren, Lisa Harrill Generia and husband, Michael, Lynn Harrill Dugger and husband, Blair, Wendy Nail McGahan and husband, Danny, Scott Nail and wife, Karen, Rhedonna Gipson Ralls and husband, Phil, Dewayne Gipson and wife, Lisa, Michael Gipson, Shana Teafatiller and Jason and Stephanie Teafatiller; great-grandchildren, Clint and Kinley Johnson, Collin and Presley Dugger, Dara McGahan, Tracy McGahan, Taylor Fischer, Taliegh and Tucker Nail, J.J. Ralls, Ember Schaffer, Layne Chapman, Nyne Chapman, Coda Metcalf and Caige Pruett; and great-great-grandchildren, Addison, Gracie and Jackson.
    Serving as bearers will be Thomas Roy Hays, Scott Nail, Dewayne Gipson, Michael Gipson, Phillip Ralls and Robert Teafatiller. Honorary bearers are Dr. Tom O'Connor, the staff of Lake Country Nursing Center and Cross Timbers Hospice.
    The family will receive friends 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
