  • Local residents found themselves without power or water for a short time Saturday after an attempt to steal copper from a sub station critically injured the alleged thief.
Carter County Undersheriff Milton Anthony said deputies were called about 3:35 a.m. to the OG&E substation, located near the intersection of Happy Trails Road and state Highway 53. Anthony said Michael Joe Williams was discovered at the scene. The 35-year-old Lone Grove man had sustained electrical current injuries.
"He had tried to climb a pole in order to steal copper," Anthony said.
Williams was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital and later transferred to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Anthony said Williams' condition was listed as critical.
    The investigation remains ongoing.
