  • Services for Robert Nelson Dees, 74, of Marietta, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013, in the Shady Dale Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. John Sconce, assisted by Donovan Knight. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
    Born October 8, 1938, in Marietta, the son of Adren and Elsie Chitwood Dees, Mr. Dees passed away Sunday, September 22, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
    A 1957 graduate of Marietta High School, Mr. Dees was married to the former Maxine Lindsey. He served in the U.S. Army and then worked in the oil fields in all four hemispheres of the world and on four continents; however, he enjoyed working in Burma most of all. The family lived in Scotland from 1974 to 1988 where he was employed as a tool pusher and platform superintendent. In addition, he owned and managed a trailer park in Marietta. Mr. Dees was appointed to the Marietta City Council and then elected to another term, but later resigned for health reasons. He was also very interested in genealogy. Mr. Dees was a member of the Shady Dale Baptist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard Don Dees on July 24, 2011.
    Survivors include his wife, Maxine Dees of the home; two sons, Robert "Paul" Dees of Marietta and Marcus Nelson Dees of Beaumont, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda Richelle Dees of Marietta, Sharan Michell and Kent Knight of Beaumont and Sherri Renee' and Douglas Diesel of Sherman, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Jo and Jerry McGill of Marietta; sister-in-law, Linda Dees of Greenville, Okla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    Serving as bearers will be Caesar Lang, Wayne Bond, Richard Quisenberry, Denzil McGill, Butch Sykora and Bob Brannan. Honorary bearers are Billy Hill, Doyle Pippins, Bill Winsor, Jim Denning, Larry Cotton and Larry D. Hull.
    The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
