At a reception with the Chickasaw Regional (Public) Library System's Board of Trustees, Executive Director Lynn McIntosh and library staff members, the system honored Cameron Currier as its Teen Volunteer of the Year.
Currier, a ninth-grade student at Plainview High School, has been volunteering at CRLS in various capacities from tutoring at the Homework Help Club, helping with the Summer Reading Program and assisting with library events including Breakfast with Characters, Day of the Child/Day of the Book, Fiesta Oklahoma and more.
"I was very surprised," said Currier. "I didn't expect it but I am grateful for the honor. I love this library and want to do anything to help make it a wonderful place in our community."
Currier is a freshman cheerleader, class treasurer, member of the choir and track team and participates in Broadway Kids, piano, dance and voice while maintaining academic excellence.
Youth Services Coordinator Shawn Brown recognized other volunteers at the reception for their time as well. Those honored include Kennedy McAlister, Aditi Verma, Emily Stinson, Anviksha Srivastava, Navneet Singh, Jackson Bobst, McKenzie Cowlbeck, Antonio Rodriguez, Erika Childs and Alyssa Underwood.
"The teens have made CRLS their own as they work hard (and often) to make it a greater library," Brown said. "It still amazes me how often these kids continue to give back to their community."
Adults who were recognized for their service to CRLS and the Homework Club were Martha and Kenny Collings. Both have been coming to the library twice a week to tutor students.
The volunteers were honored with a certificate, cake and punch at the library reception.
