U.S. Navy veteran, Bobby Gene Cross, 84, died Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center, Ardmore. The son of Marion Franklin Cross and Mohata Catherine (Michael) Cross, Bobby was born December 10, 1928, at Big Spring, Texas.

A resident of Ardmore most of his life, during World War II, Bobby enlisted in the U.S. Navy. An Aviation Boatswains Mate Third Class, he served aboard the USS Tarawa; and during the Korean War he served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. Awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Service Ribbon and the United Nations Service Ribbon, Bobby was honorably discharged after 6 years and 10 months service.

He and the former Wilma Joyce Miller were married October 16, 1981, at Gainesville, Texas; she preceded him in death, May 17, 2010.

Bobby had been employed with the Ardmore Venetian Blinds Company and for 18 years was with Carter County District 1. In his leisure time, Bobby enjoyed horses and rodeo.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bobby was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Bill and Eugene Cross; and a sister, Catherine Cross.

He is survived by brothers, Frank Cross of Dallas, and Billy Ray Cross of Ardmore.

Graveside rites, with U.S. Navy military honors, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at Provence Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Morgan Ashworth.
